Selected Centuries of Books from the Library of a Priest in the Diocese of Salisbury is a rare privately printed catalogue compiled by William Maskell in 1843, documenting his personal collection of early and significant printed books, with a strong emphasis on liturgical and ecclesiastical works. Issued in an edition of only 50 copies, the book was printed at the Chiswick Press by Charles Whittingham for the esteemed publisher William Pickering. Maskell, an Anglican priest who later converted to Roman Catholicism, was a noted liturgical scholar, and this catalog reflects his deep engagement with the religious and intellectual traditions of the Church. The title, styled in the tradition of bibliographic antiquarianism, references the "century" system, with books grouped by thematic or chronological relevance. The work stands as a fascinating record of one clergyman’s bibliophilic pursuits and remains of interest to collectors, historians, and bibliographers for its documentation of 19th-century private collecting and the religious book trade. Fantastic seller. Contacted me almost immediately with shipping details and an explanation about a potential delay due to the Juneteeth holiday. Book was wrapped in a ridiculous amount of bubble wrap so it would arrive safely. So awesome to have a book from the early 1800s on free trade. This was absolutely a great value and would buy from again! I have zero complaints.

  2. Charles Smith

Books arrived in perfect condition and why shouldn't they? A very careful and deliberate packaging like this would guarantee anything safe arrival, and shipping cost was very reasonable as well. A great value for a better-than-described item. Hope we can do business again sometime.
