Scarce in any edition, particularly this early. ESTC citation number S94902. 'Rider's Dictionary' was widely used in the seventeenth century, the conclusive English-Latin dictionary. By the noted lexicographer John Rider, with modifications and contributions by Francis Holyoke. Bound without first title page. Some leaves misbound, Dd1 and Dd2 bound after the preliminary three leaves. Dated from title page after leaf Cc8. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and loss of leather to the boards and spine. One of the two original metal clasps present in a working condition. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Small cracks to the joints. Hinges are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper and to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots and handling marks. Worming hole to the first quarter of the textblock, heavier to the first few leaves, with a small amount of loss of text to a few words. Overall Condition: Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
