He became a monk of St. Albans in 1217, and succeeded Roger Wendover as historiographer of St. Albans in 1236. He drew his information from many documentary sources including papal bulls and royal letters and from conversation with eye-witnesses of the events narrated. His style is graphic; his view is broad; and his opinions are expressed with fervour. Based on an earlier work by Roger of Wendover and also known as Flores historiarum, this is the new edition which first appeared in 1640. It was originally intended to be a mere reprint of Parker's edition, however its editor, Dr William Watts, who was chaplain to Prince Rupert, was regarded as a definite advance on Parker's. It was reissued twice, of which this is the first. Features decorative boarders, capitals and head and tail pieces. CONDITION Bound in decorative calf binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with worn extremities. Both boards are held by the cords only. Frontispiece absent. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Copperplate ink numbering to half title. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
