The collected works of Sulpicius Severus, including his sacred 'Chronicle', the life of Saint Martin of Tours, alongside three dialogues and letters. Severus was a Christian writer active during the first century, a native of Aquitania. Born to noble parents, Severus was influenced by his mentor, Saint Martin, to devote his wealth to the poor, and dedicating his life to the vision of God. 'Chronicle' is an extensive summary of sacred history, from the beginning of the world to Severus' lifetime. His 'Life' of Saint Martin was an immensely popular work during the Middle Ages, and did much to establish a great reputation of the man. Cataloguing a series of miracles, the work is not a traditional biography. CONDITION In a full calf binding, rebacked with the original boards restored. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
