A largely complimentary account of the life and achievements of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth. Published two years prior to the ill-fated Monmouth Rebellion of 1685, it can be conjectured that this work was published with the aim of generating support for the 'illustrious Protestant Prince'. Illustrated with an engraved portrait frontispiece, which has been trimmed to perimeters and mounted. This portrait is engraved by F. H. van Houe. The dedicatory epistle is signed S.T. With the former owner's inscription 'H.C.S. Fanshawe Oct. 1920' to the verso of the front free endpaper, and further notes on the text to a rear blank. Wing T53 A4, B-I8, K7 Lacking leaf K8, which should be an advertisement leaf. A fascinating work setting the stage for the Monmouth Rebellion. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Rubbing to front joint and board perimeters. Hinges strained, with boards slightly tender. Former owner's inscription to verso of front free endpaper. Inscriptions to a rear blank. Internally, leaves A3 and A4 detached and loosely inserted, with title detached to tail. Otherwise, firmly bound. Frontispiece trimmed to perimeters and mounted. Pages significantly age toned, with significant spotting throughout. Minor instances of pencil underlining to text of leaves C5, C7, C8, H4. Small loss to tail of leaf H2. Lacking K7. Such a great experience purchasing from this seller! What a large selection to choose from! All my books were securely wrapped with the utmost care, arrived exactly as described and at a good price. They were also shipped SUPER fast! I live in the US and they came from the UK and were here in a few days...quicker than books I've bought in my own country. Very highly recommend this seller. So many lovely books to choose from. I personally WOULD LOVE to have them all, but my pocketbook want let me

The book is as per the description. The packaging was excellent, and the book arrived undamaged. There was a slight delay in delivery from the UK to Australia; however, I assume this was because of the Iran conflict and many flight cancellations and delays. The seller updated me on the book's shipment and the subsequent delays. It still arrived in good time to be my husband's 1st wedding anniversary gift.

Excellent transaction from start to finish. The item arrived quickly, was securely packaged, and is exactly as described. Communication was clear and professional throughout. This piece fits beautifully into the Aguirre Family Library collection and will be preserved as part of our growing archive of historical works. A great seller I would gladly purchase from again
