The magnum opus of Adam Littleton, an extensive dictionary of the Latin language which was first published in 1673. Written in four parts; I. An English-Latine, II. A Latine-Classical, III. A Latine-Proper, and IV. A Latine-Barbarous. This dictionary was the standard work on the subject until the publication of Robert Ainsworth's dictionary in 1735. Bookplate of Thomas Evans to the front paste down. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, the rear board is detached but present, front board held by cords only, may detach with further handling despite careful handling. Leather is lifting to the joints. Loss of leather to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Bumping to the extremities. Rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Small chip to the front board. ink mark to the front board. Small tide mark to the tail of the rear board. Bookplate, stamp, and ink inscription to the front paste down. Lacking the front and rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with some occasional spots. Pencil and ink notes to the margins. A little edge wear to the textblock. Very small wormhole to the first few pages, not affecting text. Leaf Z4 is torn. Faded stamp to the title page. Lacking the frontispiece. Overall Condition: Good Only GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
