The twenty-second edition. ESTC citation number N35387. With six in-text illustrations. Three pages of adverts to the rear. An account of the life and death of the criminal Thomas Savage, who was twice executed, a cautionary tale for youth. In 1688 Savage murdered a maid at his Master's house, hitting her with a hammer. This tale explains how Savage had already shown his evil tendencies by not attempting church on the Sabbath, which was illegal at the time. Savage was executed twice, the first attempt to kill him being unsuccessful, thus shocking everyone when he suddenly started breathing once more. CONDITION In a full rebacked calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with minor marks to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the extremities. A small amount of wear to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with the occasional spot. Pages are a little closely cropped to the tail, only affecting the signatures. Light edge wear to the margins of the first few pages, resulting in a few closed tears. Prior owner's ink to the head of the title.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
