David Hume (1711-1776), generally regarded as one of the most important philosophers to write in English, was also well-known in his lifetime as an historian and essayist. Hume was Scottish-born & studied Enlightenment philosophy, history, economy, library science & is best known today for his highly influential system of philosophical empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism. Hume strove to create a naturalistic science of man that examined the psychological basis of human nature. He followed John Locke in rejecting the existence of innate ideas, concluding that all human knowledge derives solely from experience. This places him with Francis Bacon, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke , and George Berkeley as an empiricist. This book far exceeded my expectations! It’s in the most pristine condition of any of the old books that I own. Robins Rare Books is amazing. Always a great value, very well packaged, quick shipping and always as described. I am a repeat customer and will always check listing from this seller first when I’m in the market for an antiquarian book.

This arrived safely and it was well packaged. This is exactly as described and it included a thank you on a postcard. This was well thought out and the seller knows how to handle and ship rare books. This was worth more than it was sold for, in my opinion, and I greatly appreciate doing business with this person.
