This work is a biography of Colonel James Gardiner (1688-1745), a Scottish soldier who fought in the British Army duing the 1745 Jacobite rising. 'With an appendix relating to the ancient family of the Munroes of Fowlis'. CONDITION In a calf binding. Externally, rubbed with some wear to extremities and spine. Front board is nearly detached and is held loosely by one cord only. Rear joint is weak. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with some browning to edges here and there. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
