Cover in full calf. 7 ¾” x 9 ¾”. Scraping to front cover. Front endpapers are slightly loose. Title page and one of the pages of the table of contents are missing. Other-wise binding is quite good, and age foxing is light. Apart from stated defects, the volume is in good plus condition. Perkins (1748-9 to 1838) was a pastor of the Church of Christ in Hartford, Connecticut. One of the interesting features to this volume is its 19-page subscriber list at the end with some patrons and booksellers ordering multiple copies. The list indicates on only names but also towns of residence. Most are from Connecticut with several names associated with Yale. One of these is Ezra Stiles, President of Yale, who died in the year prior to the work’s publication. The length of the list is a strong indication of the influence that Perkins’ theology had on the people of his time.
