A biographical account of the life of Christian Gellert, a German poet and one of the forerunners of the golden age of German literature. To the rear of volume III appears 'a course of moral lessons' delivered by Gellert at the University of Liepzig. With the stamp of Cornwell House to each front free endpaper. With half titles to volume I and III. Lacking half title to volume II. CONDITION In full calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strips. Light rubbing to spine heads and tails and joints, with small loss of leather to head of rear joint of volume I, with head of rear joint consequently starting. Hinges lightly strained, but firmly held. Stamp to front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Significant spotting to half title and title page of volume III, with pages otherwise bright, with light spotting throughout.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
