Light wear to extremities with scuffing to edges and corners. Corners rubbed and crushed. Dampness staining to boards at left bottom corner. Dampness staining persists throughout the textblock. Moderate rubbing to joints with scuffing to spine ends. Red morocco label slightly scuffed with slight loss of gilt. Ex-library of the Belleville Library. Old hand ownerships on flys. Light toning at edges of textblock with instances of age staining and light foxing throughout. Binding remains tight and intact. Please see photos. A collection of pacifist lectures by noted clergyman Noah Worcester (1758-1837). He published several important tracts on religious subjects, and appears to have had some unorthodox views of the Holy Trinity. Worcester reflected on the effects of war and became a pacifist after the War of 1812. In this work he argued that violence and destruction of war was inconsistent with Christian values. He found the Massachusetts Peace Society, and went to forefront a popular anti-war movement that emerged in American after the War of 1812. Scarce. COLR1816DKLS-623
