In full calf binding. An American edition from the second London edition, enlarged, 1814. Robert Hamilton was a Scottish political economist and founding member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. This essay on the National Debt, first published in 1813, was the first to expose the economic fallacies in William Pitt's policy of a sinking fund. CONDITION In full calf binding. Externally, fair. There is rubbing to the extremities and to the spine. The joints are cracked. The rear hinge is strained, and the front hinge is working loose and held by cords only. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally bright and clean, with some age toning and light spotting throughout.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
