This two volume biography went on to have a significant positive influence on the public opinion of Sheridan. Sheridan was a long-term owner of the London Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, producing his own plays there, such as 'The Rivals' and 'The School for Scandal'. With a portrait frontispiece and folding facsimile plate to volume I. This folding facsimile plate usually appears as the frontispiece to volume II, but is here bound after the final contents page of volume I. Collated, complete. With the armorial bookplate of J. W. Bowen to front pastedowns, along with an inscription from the Stuart family to volume I, and the inscription of Jean Law to each pastedown. Jean was the daughter of Mary and George Hall, a descendant of Charlotte Anne Law, often known as Lota Law, and Hugh Alexander Law, an Irish nationalist politician. At their family home, Marble Hill House in Donegal, the Law's hosted prominent literary figures including George William Russell. Russell would stay in the children's house in the grounds of Marble Hill House, which was known as the 'Fairy House'. It was apparently here that found his strongest psychic insights, spending his time there hunting for fairies in their woods. The Law's also hosted W. B. Yeats, Jack Yeats, P.H. Pearse, William Orpen, G.K. Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc. CONDITION In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail, and board perimeters. Head of front joint of volume I starting, with board holding firm. Loss of leather to head of front board of volume II. Armorial bookplate and former owner's inscriptions to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Significant spotting throughout volume I, with light spotting to volume II, most concentrated to title page. Very speedy delivery and extremely well packaged. The book is in wonderful condition for age, better I think than described. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it. As for price, I snatched the offer and am extremely pleased that I did. This seller is a perfect find on eBay and I would purchase from them without hesitation, saved seller, excellent.
