He was honoured with burial at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey, and remembered for plays such as 'School for Scandal, 'The Rivals', 'The Duenna' and 'A Trip to Scarborough'. Written by Thomas Moore, (1779-1852), an Irish poet renowned for combining English and Irish tradition in his verse, and less kindly remembered for the role he had in destroying the manuscripts of Lord Byron, Romantic poet and politician. He also penned a biography of Lord Edward Fitzgerald and a four volume History of Ireland. A third edition of this work, printed the same year as the first. Volume I is illustrated with a full plate frontispiece of the subject and a folding facsimile plate. CONDITION In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight loss to the leather of the head and tails of each spine. Boards are a little bumped, as are the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Ownership inscription to the front pastedown of volume II. Pages have a few instances of spotting, but are bright and clean otherwise. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
