He was honoured with burial at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey, and remembered for plays such as 'School for Scandal, 'The Rivals', 'The Duenna' and 'A Trip to Scarborough'. Written by Thomas Moore, (1779-1852), an Irish poet renowned for combining English and Irish tradition in his verse, and less kindly remembered for the role he had in destroying the manuscripts of Lord Byron, Romantic poet and politician. He also penned a biography of Lord Edward Fitzgerald and a four volume History of Ireland. A third edition of this work, printed the same year as the first. Volume I is illustrated with a full plate frontispiece of the subject and a folding facsimile plate. CONDITION In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight loss to the leather of the head and tails of each spine. Boards are a little bumped, as are the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Ownership inscription to the front pastedown of volume II. Pages have a few instances of spotting, but are bright and clean otherwise.
