In the original French. These volumes contain the memoirs of Sebastien Blaze during the Peninsular War in Spain. During the war, Sebastien Blaze was an apothecary or pharmacist. An interesting military and medical series of memoirs from the Napoleonic period. With a bookplate for S. E. Widdrington to both pastedowns. CONDITION In quarter calf with marbled boards. Externally, a little worn with loss to the head of the spine of volume one and significant loss to the spine of volume two. With a bookplate for S. E. Widdrington to both pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages with scattered spots throughout both volumes. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
