Admiral George Brydges Rodney (1718-1792) was an officer of the British Navy known for his victories during the American War of Independence. He achieved victory over the French at the Battle of the Saintes in 1792. He also participated in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent and the capture of Sint Eustatius, and accompanied King William IV on his visit to Captain General Luis de Unzaga to commence peace agreements. Written by Major General Godfrey Mundy (1804-1860), a British Army officer and writer. From Nottingham Public Library. Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece of the subject. Complete in two volumes. A first edition of this work. CONDITION In a quarter calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight rubbing to the tails of the spines and bumping to extremities. Library bookplates to the front pastedown and stamps to the early leaves. Internally, generally firmly bound; title page to volume I is partly disbound as a result of straining to the binding past the title page. Pages have the odd instance of spotting but are otherwise bright. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
