Very nice copy of Playfair’s Geometry. John Playfair was a Scottish mathematician known for his work in Euclid’s fifth postulate. This text is in very good condition, with a full leather binding, slightly cracked at the back and with loss to the head and tail of the spine. There is some slight foxing; several names written inside: on title page and at rear on last page. The paper changes color at page 73 becoming quite brown. Good Condition: 8vo: full leather with crack at back joint from head to about 3” down: bends to the corners and scuffing with board underneath showing and slight lifting at front lower corner: slight signs of water damage at top rear near spine: Foxing: occasional writing (most notable name at front and name written at rear): “Elements of Geometry containing the First Six Books of Euclid with a Supplement on the Quadrature of the Circle and the Geometry of Solids to which are Added Elements of Plane and Spherical Trigonometry”: by John Playfair: from the Last London Edition, Enlarged: Philadelphia: A. The shipping was fast and the book was extremely well packaged. The book itself is exactly as pictured and although rare books are expected to be expensive, I was able to get a small discount that at least covered the shipping. I'm happy with my purchase, so I can say that it was a good value. I love to find old relics that kind of come full circle to find their home.
