Illustrated with five engraved monochrome plates, two hand-coloured plates of flowers - with three flowers to each plates - and nine hand coloured fashion plates, depicting eighteen women in the fashions of the day. This charming and very scarce periodical ran from January 1831, to July 1833, with the final volume only being present here. Including short stories, poems, and brief informative articles, with titles including 'The Confession of Corraphine' by Miss M. L. Beevor, and a sonnet by R. Shelton Mackenzie With a contemporary inscription, dated 1867, to a front blank. A beautifully illustrated work. CONDITION In a half calf binding, with rubbing to spine head and tail. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with instances of spotting throughout, most concentrated to pages surrounding monochrome plates at the centre of the work.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
