Description

The earliest textbook whose subject is entirely Pennsylvania, Eaton’s work was first published in 1835. Several woodcuts at various chapters highlight some important aspect of the county or town being described. There is little information available about Rebecca Eaton; she was probably a teacher as in the earlier edition, she refers to her readers as “her pupils”. Frontispiece is of the Water Works in Fairmount Park while the other woodcuts serve as chapter headings. Has chapters on the various countries in Pennsylvania and questions at the end of each chapter to test knowledge. It has been very nicely re-bound by Wert Bookbinding in burnt orange with gilt lettering and the previous owner has left a bookplate inside the front. Very Good Condition: 12mo: modern binding in burnt orange with gilt lettering on spine done by Wert Bookbinding of Grantville, Pennsylvania: bookplate inside front: foxing and red stain to frontispiece of Water Works at Fairmount Park with repair to the edge on the verso and pencil “Book given to mother by Whetstones”: foxing throughout text: very neatly trimmed edges: text complete 282 pages: “A Geography of Pennsylvania for the Use of Schools and Private Families”: second edition with corrections and additions: Rebecca Eaton: Philadelphia: Edward C. Biddle publisher: T.K. & P.G. Collins, Printers: 1837 COLU1837ABDA

Just picked up my package from Robin Rare Books and let me start by saying WOW!!! Book as advertised for sure. the value of the book certainly dictated some care in shipping but never did I think to this extent. The packaging was incredible. bigger box than needed at first thought but after opening based on the care and multiple layers of packing It would have survived a Tank rolling over it. Very grateful for you listing and working with me on the book, true piece of history I will cherish

I recently discovered Folio Society books and purchased a number of them from this site to add to my library of Easton Press books. I had a positive experience with each seller. They carefully wrapped the books in packing material to prevent damage during shipping. The books arrived in the condition described. I am looking forward to reading each and every one. I recommend them all.
