Gilt lettering on spines bright and clean. All edges marbled. Heads of spines collapsed, binding exposed. Vol. II's title label on spine beginning to chip. Marbled end-papers. Foxing found on tissue guards of frontispieces. Off-setting to title pages from frontispieces. Text-block clean, no known previous ownership or marginalia. Light toning throughout text-blocks; some instance of finger-soiling and age-staining. Bindings tight and intact. Please see photos. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), often called Dr. Johnson, was an English writer who made lasting contributions as a poet, playwright, essayist, moralist, literary critic, sermonist, biographer, editor, and lexicographer. The shipping was fast and the book was extremely well packaged. The book itself is exactly as pictured and although rare books are expected to be expensive, I was able to get a small discount that at least covered the shipping. I'm happy with my purchase, so I can say that it was a good value. I love to find old relics that kind of come full circle to find their home.
