This is the scarce First Edition. John Forster (1812-76) was a noted biographer, critic, essayist and historian, probably best remembered for the first biography of his close friend, the novelist Charles Dickens. Rising to prominence in literary circles, he befriended the likes of Charles Lamb, Leigh Hunt, Thomas Carlyle, Robert Browning and Tennyson. He produced a series of essays dealing with the seventeenth century Puritan Commonwealth, as well as several biographies. This lovely book is quarter-bound in polished calf leather with leather tips. Ron’s Book Nook was a complete privilege to do business with. Item was exactly as described, was packaged with extreme care and thoroughness to maintain the integrity of the antique book, communication excellent, and item arrived only a couple of days after purchase. Very satisfied with this transaction (price was reasonable), and would definitely recommend this seller.
