In two volumes, complete with frontispiece in volume I. A childhood acquaintance of Jane Austen, Mitford was also a successful writer best known for Our Village, a series of country sketches she wrote based on her life in Three Mile Cross. With 42 chapters across two volumes, Mitford's Recollections are comprised of lively informal essays about her favourite books. As Mitford herself comments, Recollections is 'a work where there is far too much of personal gossip and of local scene-painting for the grave pretension of critical essays, and far too much of criticism and extract for anything approaching in the slightest degree autobiography'. This blend of autobiography and criticism includes chapter on comic poets, Spanish ballads, and poets that poets love. Both volumes have a bookplate to the front pastedown, dated 1859 for 'E. Vullianvy'. CONDITION In the publisher's original calf binding. Externally, generally smart with some rubbing to the boards and the joints. Some minor wear to the extremities. Very speedy delivery and extremely well packaged. The book is in wonderful condition for age, better I think than described. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it. As for price, I snatched the offer and am extremely pleased that I did. This seller is a perfect find on eBay and I would purchase from them without hesitation, saved seller, excellent.

Thank you so much, Katherine, for a truly pluperfect transaction.
