'The Lives of the Chief Justices of England' is the third edition of this work. 'Lives of the Lord Chancellors and Keepers of the Great Seal of England' is the fifth edition of this work. This work is completely devoted to the biographies of the Lord Chancellors of England, from the earliest times, up to the reign of King George IV, and the Chief Justices of England, from the Norman Conquest to the death of Lord Tenterden in 1832. It has been a highly rated work of biography. The people discussed in this work include Thomas Becket, Thomas Bek, John Langton, Thomas Arundel, George Neville, Thomas Wolsey, Thomas More, Edward Hyde, William Cowper, and more. Written by John Campbell, the 1st Baron Campbell. Campbell was a Liberal politician, as well as being a man of letters and a lawyer. He also wrote 'Shakespeare's Legal Acquirements Reconsidered'. Sotheran bookseller label to some of the endpapers. Some light spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Corner of page ix/x of Volume I of 'Lord Chancellors' is repaired, affecting only the page number.
