Russell Howell Gronow was a Welsh Grenadier Guards officer, a dandy and a writer of celebrated reminiscences. He was ensigned in 1812 and took part in several military operations. By June 1815 he was a lieutenant of his regiment. Gronow's reminiscences were extremely popular as they gave an interesting insight into his military career, the camp, the court and the clubs. Volume I also specifically references the war with France. An amusing personal account, giving an insight into the British and French society of the 19th, albeit from the bias of the renowned dandy. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
