Complete in two volumes. Uniformly bound in a neat half morocco binding with gilt detail. Volume one has a portrait frontispiece, and seventeen plates. Collated complete. Volume two has a portrait frontispiece, and twenty-four plates. Collated complete. The interesting biography of Isabel, Lady Burton, written from the memoirs and letters of Lady Burton herself, alongside the writing of W. H. Wilkins. Isabel Burton was an English writer and explorer, best known for being the wife of the famous adventurer, Richard Francis Burton. Much of Lady Burton's life was influenced by her Catholic faith, and during the Crimean War, she set up a Catholic group called the 'Stella Club', which helped support the families of soldiers. William Henry Wilkins was an English writer, esteemed biographer, and personal friend of Lady Burton. The half title pages are present. CONDITION Uniformly bound in half morocco. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to the edges and spine. Fading to the spine. Light marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned to the edges but generally bright and clean. Spotting towards the front and rear of both volumes, with the odd spot throughout. Small mark to pages 364 and 372 of volume one.
