Description
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING COMPLETE FULL LEATHER SET PUBLISHED BY GROLIER AROUND 1900 (no date of publication, others have characterized as, ca 1900). THIS IS A LIMITED PRINTING OF 18 SETS ONLY BETWEEN THE UK AND THE US, AND CALLED, THE "AQUARELLE EDITION". This set is #3 of that limited printing. From the internet: "aquarelle, technique of painting in transparent, rather than opaque, watercolours. Although aquarelle was known to the ancient Egyptians, it did not achieve popularity in Europe until the 18th and 19th centuries. It was used especially in France and England by landscape painters." As seen in listing photos, the brown leather of the spines has faded in comparison to the boards. This is no doubt a result of their being prominently displayed for, I would imagine, most of the 20th century exposed to light, while the boards were protected and retained their original brown color. Gilt titling and decoration, no wear to leather, no use of bookplates, all volumes solidly bound, all plates present with tissue protection (and titling on the tissue). Gilt top edges, deckled edges otherwise. No interior or exterior issues to note, save for the fading of the spine. These sets were published with a varying number of books in sets - some were has high as 28, others were either in 13 or 14 volumes (it is possible that the 13-vol set I saw online was missing a book). They are of important people in UK history, all with different authors. This set includes: Mrs. Sarah Siddons Vol. 1 and 2 by James Broaden, The Sheridans Vol. 1 and 2 by Percy Fitzgerald, Lord Chesterfield Vol. 1 and 2 by W. Ernst, Beau Brummell Vol. 1 and 2 by Captain Jesse, Lady Hamilton & Lord Nelson Vol. 1 and 2 by John Cordy Jeaffreson, Count De Grammont by Anthony Hamilton, Nell Gwyn by Peter Cunningham, The Most Gorgeous Lady Blessington by J. Fitzgerald Molloy, Mrs. Mary Robinson written by Herself SL

This purchase is for a third party, a keen collector, as a surprise. I sent this vendor, lorber588, an email to confirm the product details before purchasing. They responded within the day, confirming the facts, and they answered every question in detail and I really appreciate that candor. The item arrived just an hour ago in the exact description as advertised and in pristine condition. I'm very pleased, and I'll be adding this vendor onto my favorites list for future purchases. Thank you!
