With a portrait frontispiece and two plates. Collated complete. The life of Joseph Oriol, a Spanish Roman Catholic priest now venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church as the "Thaumaturgus of Barcelona". He was beatified under Pope Pius VII on 5th September 1808 and Pope Pius X canonized him as a saint on 20th May 1909. Written by Carlo Salotti, an Italian Catholic cardinal and archbishop. CONDITION In the original full black crushed morocco with gilt and a paper portrait to the front board. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. A small crack to the front joint. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Further spotting and light age toning to the first and last few pages. A 1" closed tear to the frontispiece with small closed tears to the front endpaper. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
