The diaries have been edited by her grandson Richard Edgcumbe. Frances Lady Shelley was a noted diarist and friend of the Duke of Wellington and these volumes provide a fascinating insight into her life. With six illustrations including a frontispiece to volume one and seven to volume two and a folding plate. Collated, complete. The first volume is a reprint and the second is a first edition copy. Bookplate of Oliver Brett later Viscount Esher, who was a politician and British Peer. Bound by Roger de Coverly & Sons. CONDITION In half morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, very smart, with some rubbing to the spine. Previous owner bookplate to the front pastedown of both volumes. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
