He was among the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and was almost forty years old when he achieved international fame in 1902 with the only opera he completed "Pelleas et Melisande." Written by Leon Vallas, a French musicologist. CONDITION Bound in contemporary half morocco with blue cloth boards. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and minor fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
