Rebound in a beautiful contemporary half morocco binding by Maltbys. With a frontispiece, half title page, eight full page plates and four maps, one of which is folding. Collated complete. The classic biography of Saint Joan of Arc, focusing predominantly upon her character and life, rather than the politics of the time. Vita Sackville-West was an English author, poet and journalist. She won the Hawthornden Prize for Imaginative Literature twice, for her works 'The Land'. and for her 1933 poetry collection. She is also widely regarded as the inspiration for the protagonist of, 'Orlando: A biography' by Virginia Woolf, who was a close friend and lover of Sackville-West. With a bookplate for one, 'Peter M. Scott', to the front paste-down. CONDITION Rebound in contemporary half morocco. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with the odd spot and handling mark. Light offsetting to the edges of page 436.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
