Limited edition, number 105 of 300 copies printed. Set in Monotype Baskerville and printed on paper hand made by Hodgkinson of Wells in Somerset. Illustrated throughout, with numerous photographs of Sir Alfred's work. Sir Alfred Gilbert was an English sculptor and Goldsmith. He experimented with metallurgical innovations and was an idiosyncratic participant in the New Sculpture movement of the late nineteenth century. This text begins with a biographical description and analysis of Sir Alfred Gilbert as a person, before moving into Bury's critical and personal view of Gilbert's work. To the rear there is a commentary of the 44 plates. CONDITION In original half morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
