Bound in a quarter-leather binding on cloth boards. This is an autobiographical account of T. E. Lawrence's experiences within the Royal Air Force, which was published posthumously in 1955. Lawrence self-censored the book until after his death, writing in a letter to E. M. Forster that 'the Mint shall not be circulated before 1950', in order to protect people mentioned in the work. This work follows Lawrence's decision after World War One to disappear from public view and anonymously enlist in the Air Force. Sections are broken down into three parts, those being 'The Raw Material', 'In the Mill', and 'Service'. T. E. Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, and writer, also known as 'Lawrence of Arabia' for his role in the Arab Revolt. With an illustrated bookplate to reverse of front endpaper, belonging to Geoffrey Flavell (1913-1994). Flavell was a thoracic surgeon who joined the RAFVR as a surgeon specialist in Sicily and Algiers. He made various medical discoveries, including further understandings on the vagus pathways and hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy. Collated, complete. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
