IT IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY-PRIZED EDITIONS OF THIS GREAT AMERICAN CLASSIC. ORIGINAL ONION PAPER TO PROTECT SIGNATURE IS INCLUDED AS WELL AS COLLECTOR’S BOOKLET . 🍍 NOT INCLUDED... 😃 THESE SIGNED EDITIONS ARE GETTING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND. BALDWIN UNFORTUNATELY DIED IN 1987 AND ONLY SIGNED A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE FRANKLIN EDITIONS. ABOUT THE BOOK: Go Tell It On The Mountain , first published in 1953, is Baldwin's first major work, a semi-autobiographical novel that has established itself as an American classic. With lyrical precision, psychological directness, resonating symbolic power, and a rage that is at once unrelenting and compassionate, Baldwin chronicles a fourteen-year-old boy's discovery of the terms of his identity as the stepson of the minister of a storefront Pentecostal church in Harlem one Saturday in March of 1935. Baldwin's rendering of his protagonist's spiritual, sexual, and moral struggle of self-invention opened new possibilities in the American language and in the way Americans understand themselves. Go Tell It On The Mountain was challenged as required reading in the Hudson Falls, N.Y. schools because the book has recurring themes of rape, masturbation, violence and degrading treatment of women. It had already been challenged as a ninth-grade summer reading option in Prince William County, Va. (1988) because the book was "rife with profanity and explicit sex." (Source: 2004 Banned Books Resource Guide by Robert P. Doyle). CONDITION: Book is in LIKE NEW condition for its age with only a couple of faint negligible rubs to the page ends, barely worth noting, and the page after the signature page that is overly attached to the signature page which appears to have been bound that way. It does not affect the text in any way (SEE PICS FOR FURTHER DETAILS). NO ATTACHED BOOKPLATES, WRITING FROM PREVIOUS OWNER, ETC. It is a BEAUTIFUL EDITION. SHIPPING: FREE to US ADDRESSES ONLY. This book was wrapped so carefully and in so many layers that it took 5 minutes to open it! It is in beautiful condition, exactly as described and was worth every penny. Considering it shipped from the other side of the country it got here in a reasonable amount of time. Couldn’t be happier!
