Description
MORRISON, JAMES. A Complete System of Merchants' Accounts, Edinburgh: self-published, printed by James Ballantyne, 1808. Quarto, priority unknown, pp. x, 401, 1 (ads), contemporary calf with gilt-stamped decoration and morocco label on spine, former owner's name stamped on free front endpaper. Morrison used the books of real businesses to explain his system, although he changed the names to avoid damaging anybody's credit. His ideas were widely used by early American businesses, so anybody researching such businesses and their ledgers will find this work helpful. OCLC locates only 3 copies in the U.S. and one in Japan. Condition of this book Boards worn but sound, spine chipped at tail. Leaves clean and tight, with offsetting and scattered foxing.
