Description

Easton Press leather edition Joesph I. Lieberman's "In Praise of Public Life," with Michael D'Orso, Signed Certificate of Authenticity, one of the SIGNED FIRST EDITION series, numbered 1,209 out of 1350, PERSONALLY SIGNED by JOESPH LIEBERMAN, published in 2000. Bound in pea green leather, the book has camel tan moire silk end leaves, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, a satin bookmarker, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges--- in FINE condition. Joseph Isadore Lieberman, who was born in 1942, is an American politician, lobbyist , and attorney who served as a U.S. senator from Connecticut from 1989 to 2013. "In Praise of Public Life" is a call to service, a plea for banishing cynicism from American politics, and a glimpse of what the life of a senator is like and how the Senate really works. Lieberman complains that today's servants "must face questions not only about how he is doing his job but how he is living his life." The poisonous atmosphere and attack-dog journalism has created an environment which young people do not want to enter public life. However, he offers his own career as tonic, describing the challenges and joys of working his way through party ranks and achieving his dream of becoming a U.S. senator. During his two terms in office, Lieberman staked out his claim as a moderate Democrat, firmly embracing the title of "New Democrat" first articulated by BILL CLINTON when he was governor of Arkansas. Lieberman contends that the entertainment industry has played a major role in the decline in America's moral values. Lieberman was proud of the cooperation and compromise that Congress adopted in supporting the Clinton administration in passing a number of crucial pieces of legislation: the 1993 balanced budget, NAFTA, and GATT trade agreements that Lieberman believes helped spur the country's economic growth. A former member of the Democratic Party , he was its nominee for Vice President of the U.S. in the 2000 election, running with presidential nominee and then Vice President AL GORE. Gore and Lieberman, the first Jewish candidate, won the popular vote by a margin of more than 500,000 votes, but lost the deciding Electoral College to the Republican George W. Buch/Dick Cheney ticket 271–266. Later, Lieberman endorsed Republican JOHN McCAIN, creating a firestorm in the Democratic Party. Ultimately, the Senate Democratic Caucus voted to allow him to keep the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Before the 2016 election, he endorsed HILLARY CLINTON for president and in 2020 endorsed JOE BIDEN for president. As senator, Lieberman introduced and championed the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. 173 pages. I offer Combined shipping.
