Profusely illustrated with black and white portraits of women. Leather covers are clean with light edge and corner wear, light scratches to back cover, gilt is bright, binding is solid, pages are clean and bright, title page feels a little loose but is secure in binding. This is a biographical encyclopedia of notable American women of the 19 th Century, with black and white photos included with many of the entries. The 1470 entries include not just who that were, but what they did. This large volume was edited by women’s rights activists Frances E. Willard and Mary A. Livermore. This is a beautiful volume because it not only captures the lives of well-known women such as Louisa May Alcott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but hundreds of now lesser-known women, preserving details about their lives and accomplishments.
