Description
This is "A Biography of William Cullen Bryant" by Parke Godwin, in a first edition published by D. Appleton in 1883 (same date on the title page and the publisher's page). This edition features a two-volume set, bound in black leather over red marbled paper-covered boards, with raised spine bands, gilt spine decoration and lettering and gilt top edges. There is a frontispiece engraving in each volume. Condition of this set is Very Good Minus; it is an ex-library volume discarded by the Redwood Library in Newport, RI (the oldest continuously operating library in the U.S.). There is some wear to the corners and along the spine, and it bears a historic library bookplate on the LFEP and a list of library regulations (one cent fine per day for overdue books!) on the LREP. Other library marks are present, but none on the exterior, so this set has a lovely shelf presence. Please see my other 19th-century literature listings.
