Description
A scarce 19th-century Eastern Shore of Maryland history. This history is divided into two parts, the first being biographical sketches of all of the U.S. Presidents up through William McKinley. Each detailed sketch features a black and white illustrated plate of the President. The second portion of the book, comprising most of its 927 pages, features sketches and portraits of contemporary notable figures from Maryland's Eastern Shore, such as Civil War Governor Thomas Hicks, Confederate Army officer and Oswald Tilghman, among many others. Not all of the Eastern Shore bios have attached portraits. Scarce to begin with, this book, when found, is usually beaten to smithereens. This one is in choice condition having been professionally reworked and rebound in rich red leather by Wert Bookbinding of Grantville PA. First pages and last pages are slightly damaged on the edges but o verall an excellent copy of a scarce and desirable title.
