Description

Ray Bradbury, Charles Bukowski & Lynn “Buck” Compton Los Angeles High School Yearbook 1938, Summer Semi-Annual Blue & White. This is novelist and screenwriter Ray Bradbury’s senior year yearbook, which also features fellow writer Charles Bukowski, and Lynn “Buck” Compton. There are three pictures of Bradbury: His senior picture, as well as one for being in poetry club and another for being in the “LA Players,” the drama club. There is one picture of Bukowski, in his ROTC company, sporting his ROTC uniform. (See pictures: He is in Company A and is standing fourth from right in the second row from top.) There is one picture of Compton, posing in his baseball uniform and holding a bat, as part of the varsity team. His name and a paragraph about his playing abilities also appears. The book’s staple binding is coming apart at the top at the back, and there is wear on the cover, but for being well over 80 years old. See pictures for more details. Bios: Ray Bradbury was a novelist and screenwriter, who wrote in a number of genres, including science fiction, horror, and mystery. His most famous works are the novel Fahrenheit 451, and his short-story collections The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man. He won a number of awards, including a Daytime Emmy Award, a National Medal of Arts, and a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation. Charles Bukowski was a German-born, American writer of novels, short stories, essays, poetry, and one screenplay (Barfly, which saw Mickey Rourke playing his alter-ego, Henry Chinaski). His novels include: Post Office, Women, Hollywood, Pulp, Factotum, and Ham On Rye, which depicts his childhood, including his high school years. He is one of the most noted underground writer of the 20th century, and has attained even more fame after his death. Lynn Compton was a famous jurist, baseball player and soldier, who was portrayed by Neal McDonough in the HBO mini-series “Band of Brothers.” He was a prosecutor and California Court of Appeal judge, and served as the lead prosecutor in Sirhan Sirhan's trial for the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. He played baseball at UCLA, where he played with Jackie Robinson, and was inducted into the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame. He also played football at the college, including in the 1943 Rose Bowl Game. **Note: I am selling a number of Charles Bukowski collectible books.
