[THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN.] True first edition. Mémoires De La Vie Privée Écrits Par Lui-Même, Et Adressées À Son Fils ; Suivis D'un Précis Historique De Sa Vie Politique, Et De Plusieurs Pièces, Relative À Ce Père De La Liberté This book is the first edition of the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Printed in French. Printed in 1791. The first edition was in French. This book is printed in French. This is correct. The first English edition of 1793 is the first English edition, it is not the first edition. It was directly translated from this 1791 French book. The American Edition from 1793 was translated from this book. The true first edition of the Autobiography was in French. The binding is original. Leather supple. Hinges sound. Quality rag paper. Title page margin was professionally conservated, not affecting text. First few pages have ink stains at the top as shown in the pictures. Binding is original. Text is complete. The blank end papers look like they were replaced. This suggests that the binding was likely reinforced otherwise they would not have removed and replaced the end papers. The binding and the spine are original. Many copies were rebacked. This is the original binding. Aside for the marginal conservation and the stains this copy is in very good condition. The reason why this book is priced so low is because it is printed in French, and the first edition only contains the first two parts out of the eventual 4. It wasn’t until the mid 1800’s that all 4 parts were finally printed. This French book is the true first edition of the Autobiography. This book will be well protected for shipping. Item arrived on time and as described. The antiquarian books I purchased were very well packaged. Throughout there was timely and helpful communication. For me, was a first-time experience with this seller and was just as one would hope for, and expect, from a seller. The seller deserves the highest positive feedback. I strongly recommend seller for the great array of antiquarian items, and for the competence and reliability of the seller in delivering on their end of the transaction process.

The set of books that I purchased were better than described and expertly packaged. The shipping was faster than expected, as upgraded shipping was provided at no extra cost. This seller was slow at responding to some of my messages and offers, but really came through in the end and made this a great experience. I would recommend Ari Rare Books to the discerning collector!

Amazing service; exactly as described - a beautiful book. Wrapped so securely an aircraft black box would have been in greater jeopardy from damage in transit. And so quick! I am blown away. Many many thanks.
