Offered is the antique leather-bound book "The Automobile Handbook", written by L. Elliott Brookes and published in Chicago by Frederick J. Drake & Co. This is the fifth edition of the "manual of practical information for automobile owners, repair men and schools", with a copyright date of 1916. There are over 300 black and white illustrations, diagrams and photos, some full page. Although there are several editions of this book for sale on eBay, at the time of original listing I could not find another 1916 copy. The book is approx. 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" and contains 713 pages, including the index, plus a few other pages in the back advertising other books. It is in poor to fair condition, with some damage. The back of the soft leather cover is missing and the front is detached, but present, with some surface bits missing on the front as well as the spine. The gold words on the front and spine are still mostly shiny. I see no missing pages but some of the first 66 pages are partially or completely loose; after page 67 they are all well-attached to the binding. The first few pages have some edge tears but afterwards are tear-free. They are mostly clean and clear, with occasional light foxing. I see no writing in the book. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions. The book arrived on time and in good condition. The box it was packed in was a little large and the book had shifted a little in transit, but as it was wrapped inside it handled the bumps well. The price was good for the condition and everything seemed as it should. Thanks!!!
