Princess Marie-Caroline (1798 - 1870) married into the French royal family when she wed Louis XVIII's nephew Charles Ferdinand, Duke of Berry. Their son, Henri, Count of Chambord, was the last serious Bourbon pretender to the crown of France. Caroline became an important figure in the politics of the Bourbon Restoration when, following the death of Louis XVIII, she declared her son to be the legitimate king. Written by Paul Ferdinand Stanislas Dermoncourt (1771 - 1847), the French general who arrested Caroline following her instigation of a short-lived insurrection. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Princess Caroline and two further plates.
