Description
This may be a facsimile of a later (1920s) edition of The Martyrdom of Man by Matthew Reade with a deep burgundy leather cover. The publisher, George A. Vanderburgh, said after seeing this book recommended by Sherlock Holmes to Doctor Watson in The Sign of the Four , he set out to find a copy and could not, so he published his own. I googled and researched and I could not find another copy of this book, a stated First printing 1995, and giving the press as the Metropolitan Toronto Reference Library and Vanderburgh as publisher. So it's quite rare! I've taken a photo of Vanderburgh's introduction -- he's also included the Introduction by Joseph J. Fink, a Biographical Note on Reade, an Introductory Sketch by J. F. M., and an Introduction by the Rt. Honorable J. M. Robertson for the 1933 edition, and the Preface by the author.
